Welcome to the IW:LEARN Communications and Technical Solutions Webinars

IW:LEARN is the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network. The IW:LEARN project was established to strengthen transboundary water management around the globe by collecting and sharing best practices, lessons learned, and innovative solutions to common problems across the GEF International Waters portfolio. It promotes learning among project managers, country officials, implementing agencies, and other partners.

IW:LEARN will hold two webinars in November:

  1. Tuesday 19 November: Communications
  2. Tuesday 26 November: Technical solutions

Please note: These webinars have been created for the GEF International Waters Portfolio. We highly encourage GEF IW project managers to attend, but also to ensure that their communications and data management officers make use of this opportunity.

Writing a story, capturing strong images, and sharing your work on social media

How do you write a story about your project that will engage an audience and spur action? During this webinar, you will learn how to develop a compelling narrative, highlight inspiring characters, and show off your successes.

Your story will grab more attention if it includes strong photographs and perhaps a video. What are the best ways to take photos? When are videos effective? Learn more about conveying your message with visuals.

A story doesn’t exist if it’s not shared online. What is the most effective way to share your stories on social media? Learn how to define your target audience, choose the right platform and catch people’s attention in the best way possible.

Website Toolkit: How to create a website using the toolkit

The Website Toolkit provides support for developing a dynamic content management system that is linked and searchable through IW:LEARN’s International Waters Information Management System. The resulting network will allow access to high-quality data and information and ensure dissemination to a broader community of stakeholders.

IW:LEARN works with GEF International Waters projects to improve online sharing of data and information relevant to managing international waters, including marine, coastal and freshwater ecosystems.

This webinar will give you the opportunity to learn how to create a website using the available toolkit.

How to organise data in the IW:Learn Spatial Lab

The IW:LEARN Spatial Lab aims to provide a customizable mapping of the GEF International Waters (IW) portfolio and provide a visualization of studies, reports and intervention results on the various transboundary water basins pulled together with the help of the GEF IW projects, partner organizations and authoritative sources and other contributors.

The IW:LEARN Spatial Lab aims to provide a central service for sharing and discovering geodata. The platform lets users upload, manage, and browse and visualize data, and export public data in reusable formats.

This is made possible through GeoNode, an open-source platform for sharing geospatial data and maps.
