Black-capped Marmot (Marmota camtschatica), Lena Delta, Siberia
The Black-capped Marmot, distributed in different populations over East Siberia and Kamtschatka, is adapted to cold deserts and harsh conditions of the Arctic or high elevations. It is one of the largest species of the marmots, which lives in monogamous breeding pairs. They have to store reserves to hibernate through long winter periods.
