After three and a half years of successfully contributing to an increase in both environmental and human security in states affected by fragility, the ambitious Earth Observation for Sustainable Development – Fragility, Conflict and Security (EO4SD-FCS) project has come to a conclusion.

This European Space Agency (ESA) project has successfully demonstrated how data from Earth Observation (EO) technology can be transformed into useful analytical products that can be used to reduce environmental and human insecurity in fragile states. It provided International Financing Institutions such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank with the latest EO-based tools and services, supporting them in adapting these products as standard solutions in all their projects addressing fragility.

Tackling the interrelated issues faced by fragile states meant establishing a collaborative relationship between stakeholders at many different levels of decision-making. The video below presents feedback from a few stakeholders on the support provided by the earth observation services delivered to them in the frame of the EO4SD-FCS project:
GRID-Arendal played an important role in the EO4SD-FCS project. We supported its activities by turning complex technical information into easily understandable, innovative communication products, as well as by facilitating capacity-building and stakeholder involvement.
To keep the momentum gained during the implementation of the EO4SD-FCS project, the European Space Agency is planning a follow-up meeting with the representatives from the World Bank, where the project outcomes will be presented, and future opportunities for cooperation will be discussed.
