Trends in agricultural fertilizer use per region for the period 2000-2016

Description

Agricultural practices vary between the subregions in Africa. Many of the differences are related to the continent’s environmental diversity and its great range of landscapes and climates. Pastoral and agropastoral systems are vital to North Africa, West Africa, East Africa and Central Africa. More and more of Africa is becoming irrigated (International Water Management Institute [IWMI] 2016), as irrigation is an important means for increasing food security in the region. Also fertilizer use is increasing in the various regions of Africa, with implications on water quantity and quality.
