Description

The pandemic has led to an increase in the production of single-use personal protective equipment (PPE), such as disposable plastic face masks, gloves and gowns, and certain types plastic packaging (EEA 2021). Millions of potentially contaminated masks, gloves and antiseptic wipes have escaped into the environment because of street littering.
